The Program

Little House Farm functions as a “cottage school” — a homeschool setting with private school structure. Children at Little House Farm are legally homeschooled students. Parents are responsible for reporting this to their school district’s superintendent (required paperwork can be given upon request). In Virginia, children can be homeschooled by parents or a “tutor.” This tutor must hold a valid Virginia teaching license. Lindsay Meredith is a Virginia-licensed teacher, and is legally able to homeschool other people’s children.

As a cottage school, Little House Farm follows a hybrid model of homeschooling. Students attend school in-person at the farm two days a week from 9am-3pm. They are then sent home with two days of work to be completed by the following week. All materials and plans are provided each week by the teacher, including work that is completed at home.

At the end of the school year, a detailed record of subjects covered is provided by the teacher, along with the State-required evaluation letter. It is the parent’s responsibility to submit these records to the state each year.

Little House Farm is a licensed and insured business of Stafford County, Virginia.

Living Books

A tenant of Charlotte Mason-based education is the use of living books— books that inspire thought and deep ideas. Beautiful illustrations make the learning experience even more-interactive and inspiring. Each day here, we dive into living books for all subjects. There are no typical textbooks used.
